Biography

Erling Dahl Jr. (born 1946) is a prominent figure in Norwegian music, renowned for his contributions as an educator, museum director, and author. Dahl began his career teaching in primary schools and performed numerous school concerts in Rogaland. He also served for a decade at the Rogaland Conservatory of Music.

From 1991 to 2004, Dahl was the director of the Edvard Grieg Museum at Troldhaugen. During his tenure, the museum experienced significant growth, not only in visitor numbers but also in scholarly activities, establishing it as one of the world’s leading composer museums. His initiatives included organizing concerts, producing recordings, curating exhibitions, publishing works, and overseeing research projects. A notable achievement was the development of a new museum building. In recognition of his dedication to Grieg’s legacy and Troldhaugen, Dahl was awarded the Grieg Prize in 2007.

An accomplished author, Dahl published “Edvard Grieg: En introduksjon til hans liv og musikk” in 2007, offering insights into Grieg’s life and compositions. He has also contributed numerous articles and writings related to Edvard Grieg.
