Eirik Grøtvedt

Biography

The Norwegian tenor Eirik Grøtvedt, born in 1993, studied at the State Academy of Music in Oslo.

In the autumn of 2019 Eirik Grøtvedt joined the Young Singers Program at the Norwegian National Opera. He is now a member of the soloist ensemble at the same house.

His roles have included Rinuccio in GIANNI SCHICCHI, Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI, Ferrando in COSÌ FAN TUTTE, Chevalier de la Force in DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES, Cassio in OTELLO, Steuermann in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, Male Chorus in THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA, Brother 1 in THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS, Le Dancaïre in CARMEN, Don Curzio in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Pluto in Offenbach’s ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD, Matteo Borsa in RIGOLETTO and he sang Kyle Harris in world premiere of Mazzoli’s THE LISTENERS as well as Andreas / Scott Hansen in the world premiere of Synne Skouen’s opera FRAM.

His concert repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s ELIAS, Haydn’s DIE SCHÖPFUNG, Handel’s MESSIAH, Mozart’s REQUIEM, MASS IN C MINOR and KRÖNUNGSMESSE, Beethoven’s SYMPHONY No 9, Dvořák’s STABAT MATER, Bruckner’s TE DEUM, Telemann’s DIE TAGESZEITEN, Bach’s MASS IN B MINOR as well as several CANTATAS by Bach. In the autumn of 2023 he sang Franz Lehár’s rarely performed symphonic poem FIEBER with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Eirik has worked with conductors such as Fabio Biondi, Gregor Bühl, Daniel Cohen, Edward Gardner, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Mariangiola Martello, Ariane Matiakh, Vincenzo Milletarì, Yi-Chen Nin, Carlo Rizzi, Graham Ross, Ilan Volkov and Keri-Lynn Wilson.

He has an especial affection for Lieder. Despite his young age he has already built a considerable repertoire including songs by Alfvén, Beethoven, Brahms, Britten, Grieg, Liszt, Rangström, Schubert, Schumann, Sibelius, Stenhammar, Vaughan Williams, just to mention a few.

In September 2024 Eirik Grøtvedt sang Steuermann in concert performances of DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER in a cast that included Lise Davidsen and Gerald Finley. The concerts were recorded by DECCA and will be released in 2025.

Eirik Grøtvedt was the winner of the Norwegian Soloist Prize 2023, one of Norway’s most prestigious music awards.
