Cecilie Løken Hesselberg

Biography

Cecilie Løken Hesselberg studied flute at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Her international debut as a soloist was in Zurich in 1994 with Mariss Jansons. The year before, in 1993, she won the Princess Astrid Music Prize.

Cecilie has been a principal flautist with many top orchestras worldwide, including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2009, she was selected by conductor Valery Gergiev to become a member of the World Orchestra for Peace, thus becoming a UNESCO Artist.

She has performed as a principal flautist in concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Concertgebouw. She was nominated for the Spellemann Award for “Classical Album of the Year” in 2016 for chamber music by David Monrad Johansen. Cecilie has been a lecturer at several music academies in the Nordic countries and dedicates her free time to teaching children with disabilities.

In 2016, she received the Aurora Music Award for her work supporting refugees on the Greek islands. In her spare time, she loves playing tennis with her son, cooking on the beach, and skiing at a slow pace!
