Gunnar Danbolt
Gunnar Danbolt (b. 1940), is Professor of European Art History at the University of Bergen. He has written a number of books and articles on painting and sculpture from Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, and on modern art, art theory, handicrafts and children’s culture.
He appears as a speaker and lecturer in a wide range of contexts.
In 2000, Danbolt received the Meltzers Høyskolefonds Research and Communication Award and, in November 2007 was appointed a Knight of the First Class of the Order of St. Olav for services to art.He also received the Per Sivle Prize in May 2010, for his use of the Nynorsk dialect in his book on Norwegian art history.
From 2003 to 2015 he presented the radio programme Kunstreisen with Nina Skurtveit on NRK P2, on which they discussed artworks in collections and exhibitions in Europe and the USA.
Since 2010, Gunnar Danbolt has been Professor Emeritus, but still gives lectures and participates in art tours at home and abroad.
